Yesterday i gave my 9 chooks a stern talking to about the possibilities of casserole for some of them if they didn't up there egg production...
we have been averaging about 3 eggs a day which was a bit poor for 9 chooks
Today at first collection I had 6 eggs, lets hope it continues!!!

They may understand threat but they forget them just as quick ;D
-
Better be careful they may report you to social services ;D
-
why is 3 eggs out of 9 hens bad for this time of year?
-

RSPB surely ?! ;) ::D

a friend of mine said the same thing to me today! :) She had words with hers hens a few days back, now she's inundated with eggs! ;D
-
they can call who they like when they can pay there own phone bill!!!
till then its lay more eggs or if i can work out who the slackers are they will be casserole!!!
-
I did the same last week - well not quite a lecture but I did ask who was not performing, Out of 10 hens (one of which I think is past it and 2 others I didn't think were at pol) I was getting 3 or 4 eggs a day. Today I got 9!!!!!

Right. That's it. My lot are going to get a stern talking to.
I'm pretty sure only 4 of the six are laying at the moment, and some days it's down to 3.
One of ours has a habit of laying in the garden instead of the nestbox. We've lost dozens of eggs as a consequence. She might be top of the list (after the cockerel, that is, who's on his final warning before the gun).

Someone suggested to me that I take an egg box and a packet of Paxo up to the hen house and tell them to choose! ;D ;D

I got 6 eggs off 6 hens yesterday. The final 2 laid their first eggs of the season yesterday! ;D
-
I'll have to go out and have a word with mine too ::)
Think I'll take a casserole dish just to reinforce the message ;) ;D
-
go for it
am currently in a mood for baking so need them to keep up the supply!!!

I actually got 4 Harmony Blue chickens today at the market (had to get something ;) and it couldn't have been a pig, got plenty of them ;D) so I'm going to be able to tell who's laying and who's not. Maran's with their lovely dark eggs, harmonies with their bluey green ones and my 2 wee brown hens with their 'standard' eggs - should be an colourful egg dish in my house from now on ;D

we joke in our house about "squeezing the chickens" when I get "orders" for eggs from friends/work & may fall short!
It started with my mate who was concerned when I made some fly-away comments like "I'll see what I can do" or something & she said "how you make them lay?!
My o/h joked that he kicked them (Never would I assure you!!) I replied no, we just squeeze them.... and the eggs pop out!
