Title: eating straw
Post by: horsemadmummy on March 11, 2011, 04:54:01 pm
i have just brought home 5 in lamb ewes and put them in the barn on a bed of wheat straw (I couldn't get barley)  I thought I would just leave them quietly after the jouney while I sorted out water and getting hay ring in.  When I came back they were eating their bed!!!

Is this normal and will it cause a problem?

thanks just panicing!!!

They are lovely - thanks for putting me in touch with them.  Bed was clean obviously.  Had my first taste of being a real shepherd having to unlaod them 1 by 1 as they were eyeing up the 4 acres which are ungrazed!!!!  Shall I put hayleage in tonight or just leave them be they have had  a very busy day?! and I think they have more than enough straw to be going on with.  I thought I would start with the routine from tomorrow ie feeding etc hopefully they will feel more calm.  Will post pics asap.
