Any :pig: people out there insure their pigs?
The person we are tacking from does horsey livery - pigs are 3 fields away from the horses. The're not concerned about the piggies doing any damage, we have to maintain the field fencing & they're within electric fenced paddocks on rotation.
Got me thinking what if some ***** did pinch em after the heartache, could we afford to replace them?

we insure ours, mainly in case they escape and do damage to he village! 60 pigs on a rampage in our village would not be good! Also insured against theft and any problems with the retailing of the meat :pig:

Who do you have your policy with & does it cover them being stolen?
 :pig:

Out of interest, who do you insure pigs with? NFU? I might get a quote for ours this year as we'll hopefully be getting in to double figures.
-
we insure ours through a broker Longmynd Insurance, Shropshire who insures our whole farm, they are great as we have specialist needs with public liability, employers, tractors, JCB work etc etc  theft is included
-
if anybody on here has there pigs insured how much for how many and just what they are covered for also have you claimed and did they settel without quibble now i am not meaning product liability for selling produce :pig: :pig:

Ok, think I've started something here :D
Do you think this is something we can ask Karen to add to her"to do list" - maybe special deals for SPKA Members? Sure she's got plenty of time on her hands at the mo ha ha ha ;)
-
well i was just wondering what the premiums would be
i know the pedigree sheep breeders have ins????

Found some websites in Smallholder mag (sorry in advance - are we allowed to mention retail stuff on here?) Ottery.co.uk seem to be offering something reasonable by their ad - also farmsure underwriters ltd advertising in the mag, will try them tomorrow & post back.

I use NFU covers a few things including liability and wandering.

My pigs are covered on our NFU policy in case they get out and do damage and i think also for theft, they had put pony on the policy but we asked if it could be changed to pig and i think they agreed.

mine are covered for third party and theft, death in transportation. max of £5000 per animal so i presume it would be market value. our policy covers all our cows, pigs, ponies etc. never made a claim tho - nfu
