Title: who insures my car???
Post by: northfifeduckling on March 03, 2011, 10:42:04 pm
my mum's hand-me-down, left hand drive, recent import, no UK plate as yet, worth a few 100 -
chicken or egg - I can't get it insured without a number plate - 10 years ago we could do it on the chassis nr! and I now can't get insurance without a registration nr....
I spend all day on the phone as on-line doesn't even let you go there without a reg and I now just want to get drunk into oblivion... :'( :'( :'( :&>

You can spend all day on the internet and phone re car insurance......not sure what the answer is but I suppose some firm would be able to insure it on the plate it did have   or am I talking rubbish?   OK rubbish  ;)

we did it before 10 years ago. It was no problem then to insure through the chassis nr and then change it to the new number plate - not any more. So much for the EU  :P

Have you called Directline?  Why can't you get the UK plate first? Surely DVLA can help?

exactly  ::)
especially as we did not anticipate a problem! According to the insurance man they( DVLA) assume that a company does all that for you idf you get a car from abroad and as a private person it is a good as impossible. I could have bought a cheaper car than the insurance here but I do appreciate my mum's gesture  ;D
