I suppose you have loads of chickens but I found my plastic drinkers broke very quickly, especialy in the frost, so now I have all sorts of bowls, not so nice to look at but they do the job, my best one is an old Jam pan, it did have a handle until I droped it when it was frozen!!! I have also used plant troughs, they have also cracked but the look quite nice and very cheap!!

we bought these last year and they are great and easy to use

we also bought 2 treadle feeders from ebay and are very happy with them.  In previous winters we have found the plastic ones broke with the frost

I have an old dish for holding field licks for horses. It's really robust and has lasted years.

I have one plastic one and one metal drinker which I was both given by folks who gave up theiir birds. I keep them indoors over night if it gets below freezing. The chooks help themselves more from the duck bowls as soon as they are out in the garden. I saw the drinkers on sale at our local feed merchants but never looked how much they are. I would look on ebay. :chook: :&>

Cheaper than what? They sell them where I work a bit under 30 quid I think. Problem I can see with them is they are a bitch to clean once the algae has coated the inside.

I put some small loose gravel in with a little bit of water and start shaking it. Works a treat.

So long as I can keep the pigs away from them I find the plastic drinkers work well enough.

The porkers, though, seem to take delight in turning them over and tossing them in the air.
