Welcome, Woodsman. So long as you don't shout (TYPING IN UPPER CASE) everyone here will forgive the lack of computer skills, since all of us (except Dan) have varying levels of knowledge. And you don't need a smallholding - Rosemary will tell you that - just 'aspire' to it ;) We all just like chatting about the land, humanity, and animals and our love of these.
I assume these are grey squirrels, and I had no idea they did so much damage as to enrage a tree man. Do Red ones not damage the trees to the same extent? or perhaps not at all?

Grey squirrels are a real menace. >:( Have lost two young oak trees this year ( about 30 year old) to squirrel damage where they just strip the bark all round the tree and it starves to death. :'( :'(
