Post by: andywalt on February 22, 2011, 09:30:26 pm
I was met early this morning with a bleating from the corner, and out it came running, so agile, and so so black!! ive never seen a lamb so black, not even a speck of white anywhere!!  must be near full Norfolk Horn gens!!  but if you look at the mother she is more like a goat !!

What a lovely ewe lamb.  I hope you're going to keep her.  Apparently all black sheep are lucky and every flock should have one!!  The mother does look like a bit like a goat, but I think its just because of her horns.

She's lovely! Will she stay black? Our Ryelands are born black but change colour as they get older.

yes I will keep her, the breed well, the ewe mother is suppose to be suffolk x Norfolk Horn, the ram in the flock before I brought them was a norfolk horn, I think whats happened is the ewe mother is half norfolk horn but the previous owner breed her with her ram norfolk horn father so the lamb is 3/4 Norfolk horn and a small percentage suffolk, im surprised it wasnt malformed !!!   generally the lambs have been white with black mottling, as they get older the fleece turns white and they keep black faces and feet !! I think it will stay black im sure as mother has stayed dark brown.

We bought some commercial crosses last year to get started with including a black ewe throwback that looks mostly Black Welsh Mountain - spindly legs and a turbocharger.  The farmer sold her cheap because she was never going to make much for him but Alice is a real character.  We're going to borrow a Ram (has to be a bit smaller than a Dartmoor) and see what comes out next year.

Yes the ewe mother (Morag) is definately annoyed with me, shes very wild, if I get a bout 4 meters from her she stamps her feet very agressively....I was talking to a sheperdess about 6 months ago who saw Morag and she just said  GOSH which I cant remember what it means, some kind of odd thro back with the gens that you can get, has any one heard of this  ......GOSH   ?????

ohh over my head and the fence !!!

Summary: The GoSh database is a collection of 58 990 Capra hircus and Ovis aries expressed sequence tags. A perl pipeline was prepared to process sequences, and data were collected in a MySQL database. A PHP-based web interface allows browsing and querying the database. Putative single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection, as well as search to repeats were performed, and links to external related resources were provided. Sequences were annotated against three different databases and an algorithm was implemented to create statistics of the distribution of retrieved homologous ontologies in the Gene Ontology categories. The GoSh database is a repository of data and links related to goat and sheep expressed genes.
Availability: The GoSh database is available at http://www.itb.cnr.it/gosh/ (http://www.itb.cnr.it/gosh/)

Scientific terminology is actually very precise and specialist English not intended to be understood by the outsider.

Kanisha and Fleecewife were using this dialect about Hebrideans a while back
