Hello. I left the rat race 7 years ago and am now kinda smallholding on the side of my better half's Cumbrian farm. We farm beef and sheep, since I moved in we also have pigs in the old orchard and a very very spoilt Jersey house cow. Sadly the mink had the muscovies but the hens seem to be ok in the cattle shed.
Looking forward to hearing about other people's experiences and getting some help with my own new challenges.

Hi and welcome from Carnoustie
Can I ask you how you manage your house cow? We've just bought two Shetland heifers that we hope to calve for the first time in Spring 2012. I'm therefore very interested in how other folk manage their house cows - there's not a lot of information out there. Please feel free to go into as much detail as you like - might be better to start a new topic in the Cattle section though. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome from Devon :)

Hi and welcome from Sue in Worcestershire. I envy you the beautiful milk and cream from your cow, but not the amount of work involved (kept house cows for quite a few years) but they are real characters and lovely to have around
All the best

Welcome from Brittany where for the first time we are having trouble from foxes. I like cows from a distance but am a pig enthusiast.

Wow, what a welcome. Thanks all.
Rosemary I have started a thread on managing the house cow in Cattle, as you suggest.
Thanks again for the warm welcome
