Hello all.
Now this is where I should be, not all the other forums Ive joined, all bar Goatbeat of cause, they have helped me out no end.
An English man in Crimea, am I, moved out to be with my good lady and fell into the smallholding by pure chance with 3 acres of land and a peach orchard of 90 odd trees, with some grapes thrown in for good measure, was given a goat...our Marta she is a great milker and is in her second yr, we kept 1 of her kids Tamara but failed miserably to get her into kid so better luck next yr, its been a huge learning curve as I was a camaraman in the uk but was a herdsman for a couple of yrs before joining the army, so this forum sounds like the perfect place for me to hang out, I surfed here by accidant looking for ways to make bacon (we cannot get it out here, and I miss it lol)

Wow - that sounds idyllic - peach orchards and grapes. Lucky you.
Bacon's pretty easy, but you do need a pig first ::) Though I think they used to make mutton bacon in Wales many years ago.
Anyway welcome from Sue in a cold wet sodden Worcestershire.

Thanks for the big WELCOME from that place deep in my heart....shhhhhhh dont tell Tanya (Thats the other half) lol
strange thing that....bacon, apparently, Ukraine in general as a country supplies a mighty chunk of the world market for bacon......but do you know what????? they DO NOT sell it here...crazy but true.
Crimea is the southern tip of Ukraine, its the bit that sticks out into the black sea. and is self governing. the bit the Russians and Ukrainians are silently arguing about. Given away to Kiev as a present by the Russian queen, Catherine many yrs ago.

Hi welcome from Brittany, either search the recipe section for bacon or buy the powder direct from http://www.sausagemaking.org/ (http://www.sausagemaking.org/) (postage is extortianate better if you can have it sent via a friend in UK).
Our pigs love peaches and grapes. What breed of pigs do they have in Crimea?
