Post by: egglady on February 08, 2011, 09:20:23 pm
So let me telly ou what I've done so far and maybe someone can fill inthe blanks for me please...

I've bought my domain name
I've bought the email address I want to use with it
I've created a website on weebly (can't believe how easy it is to use!)

and now I want to publish it to see what it looks like (I do know it will need more editing but you know how imatient us girlies are!)

I've heard about 'hosting' and i understand the concept but do i get weebly to do it or 123.com?

and how do i go about it?

thanks

'Hosting' - is the computer/server space your website sits on to be shown on the internet - using a free service to produce a website as you have may be difficult to tie in with a bought domain name but I'll look into it tomorrow. Usually, as far as I know, when you produce a website from free online software ie 'weebly' you have to host it through them - so free but you can't then use your own domain name. But will be in touch.

Does this help?
http://kb.weebly.com/faq-site-address.html (http://kb.weebly.com/faq-site-address.html)
or this
http://support.weebly.com/support/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=2 (http://support.weebly.com/support/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=2)

It allows you to use your own domain, and you can click to publish.

Here is how

Yes, as Doganjo has shown, you can have your own domain name on weebly (we do www.scothebs.co.uk  (http://www.scothebs.co.uk) ) and they talk you through how to set it up.  No need to get anyone else to do it, or pay anything.  Weebly is definitely easy to use, although it does have the odd frustrating annoyment where you can't do something you want to - but hey - it's free so I'm not complaining  ;D  I've grown quite fond of the long pics at the top of pages and now take photos with those in mind.
