Very sad to learn today that Friday, gorgeous girl, has an inoperable mass under her tongue.
she is 11, and had her as a kitten from rescue when I still lived at home with my parents.
she acts like an old lady, since she was about 3 (!) and has always been a fussy eater.
she has to have her teeth descaled quite regularly.. and this is when the vet found this lump.
she has Metacam & has to go back in a fortnight.
poor old girl ...
:'( :cat: :-* :cat:

oh so sorry to hear your news, its very sad, i bet she is getting lots of tlc, thinking about you both
-
I know this seems a hard thing to say but don't let it go on too long. My sister had a sprocker bitch with this condition and left it just a bit too long to give her peace.
-
Sorry to hear about your pussycat. :bouquet:
-
Annie, its okay, my mum, dad and I agree that if she isnt eating or seems in pain before the vet wants to see her, then they'll take her in.
thanks everyone
-
sorry you're having a sad time with your cat and poorly hen.... hugs being sent over the hill

thanks Manian
never rains but it pours here...

I'm so sorry too Ruth :'(
We had a tom cat with terrible teeth/mouth problems (never seemed to affect his ability to catch and chew mice though ::)) as you've said as long as she's eating and seems well & happy she deserves that wee bit extra time for cuddles and getting spoilt
Thinking of you :-*

Hard to see an animal ill, especial one of the family pets! :bouquet:

Sorry to read your sad news. I found myself in a similar situation last summer with a cat I'd had for nearly 23 yrs, from a kitten.
He too had a tumour under his tongue/throat. He lost a lot of weight quite quickly and clearly wasn't enjoying the same quality of life he was accustomed to.
I called the vet out and she put him to sleep in my arms. He's sleeping in a corner of the garden now.

So sorry, unfortunately some vets sometimes offer you all sorts of hopes when there really is none. It all works out very expensive and just prolongs a cherished pet's life toward a more uncomfortable end. I hope you have a peaceful time together and can reach the end with time for love and a special moment together.
-
I am sorry, Ruth. There is always something when you have animals, and usually involving costly vet visits at some stage.
-
she's going back to the vets on Monday.
we bought her kitten biscuits today, as she eating a little but struggles with softer food. must be hard for her to swallow.
mum has to wear gloves to give her the metacam - she still got plenty of fight in her!!
-
What little time we have with our pets should be our best care and love! a safe warm home with food and thats about it, we get our needs from our animals and they get thier need met from us (hopefuly) so, do not feel guilty, I would love a cat!!
-
I'm sorry to hear this and am feeling upset for you. I hope she doesn't suffer.
-
How sad for you and the poor cat :(
-
Thinking of you {{{hugs}}}
-
just an update - the infection round the tumour seems to have cleared up, and the vet has reduced her Metacam (painkiller) by a whole 1ml
She is very, very thin & still cannot swallow soft food. she's never been into eg chicken (I know, weird!) so is having a few kitten biscuits & the gravy from Gourmet.
but she is just as affectionate as ever, and goes out in the sun & sleeps in when it rains, just as she always has done!
We know we wont have her around much longer, but she seems happy enough
thanks for all your kind comments :)
-
The poor love. Enjoy every minute with her.
And that not liking chicken thing is so very odd!! Never heard that before. :)
-
she LOVES fish, but has been unable to eat her weekly fish skin for about 3 weeks now.
but has never, ever been fussed about meat....
... unlike my 4 here who will climb in the fridge, or sit watching the oven door just in case the meat escapes!!
-
I tend to keep my animals until they are old and wonky .......I do feel for you, and the cat, too, as this sounds awful. I find the older cats struggle with eating sometimes, and I try to mince their food, and some of them can eat it much better. Funny enough they seem able to cope better with biscuits than the tinned meat
I look after my neighbours cat while they are away. It must be nearly 20, and unfortunately recently has developed all sorts of ailments. Thyroid gland problem, liver problem, etc. etc. Went as thin as a rake, and when they took Poppy to the vet, I honestly thought that was it. But, back she came, and after a course of tablets, she has perked up, and looks lots better. Am looking after her for a fortnight now, so hope she does not die on me. There other cat who was old, took a bad turn and I had to take her and have her pts while they were away!!

Just to let you know little Friday died today
She was asleep in the garden, sunbathing.
My Dad has been carrying her down the steps & back to the garden for a while - she was insistent on being out, but its a long way!
Sleep well little Girl Friday, you are loved and will be missed.
-
Oh Ruth, I'm so sorry :'( But at least you know she went peacefully, without pain or fear and in her own surroundings.
Big hugs and much love from me

-
Oh I am so sorry, you've got me in tears. As I was reading it I couldn't help but think, 'what a lovely way to go, sunbathing in her own garden'
I wish I could make it better, but annoying as it sounds, time really is a good healer.
Sending big hugs,
McR xxx :'(

So sorry to hear your news. Sadly we also lost a cat yesterday. He was nearly 14 & had been ill for only a couple of days. It doesn't matter whether you are expecting it or not, or how old they are its always awful - so feeling for you

I send all my love and good wishes to those who have lost their beloved pussies recently. We have three, Tabitha who is 14, Phoebe who is 13 and Freddie who is 7. I count every single day with the 2 girls as special as you never know how long they have with you. Phoebe had a cancerous growth removed from her neck 2 years ago, I thank heaven above that it hasnt returned. Tabbi has arthritis and limps some days but they all eat well and love their new home in France.
I so dread the day that we have to say good bye to one of them. It will break our hearts. We cried enough when Monty our cockeral died, I just know we will go to pieces. I just reassure myself that we have given them the best life possible whilst they are in our care.
Love to all our furry friends who are now in pussy heaven.

thanks Mary (even though it made me cry)
