Our six ewes are due to lamb late March; we also have three ewe lambs running with them. Leo, our tup, is in another field with our wether Dickie.
Can I put Leo in with the girls? I don't want the ewe lambs mated so are they past being in season?
Leo looks so miserable.
-
I wouldn't!!
-
Put the ram in on the 7th of Jan one year everyone including the ewe lambs got pregnant ;D
-
Vet said "no" too. It woudl disrupt the ewes and he MIGHT catch a ewe lamb.
So he'll just have to stay miserable. At least he gets 6 happy weeks a year - not everyone can say that ;D
-
Both my tups are in separate fields (separate from each other and the girls) each with some wether lambs, and they are miserable... but better safe than sorry. My shetland ewe lambs really are not that big!
-
I keep my rams in all year but ewe lambs come out and I have lambs the same time each year
-
i can not believe how little you people know about sheep.

Explain

here! here! we are all smallholders and share ideas. The same thing may not work for everyone but if it works for you don't change it and don't force opinions on others. But if humans and animals all reacted in the same way and done exactly the same thing wouldn't life be boring.
If you can't justify your statement why make it? >:( This forum is full of people that share support and advise and really doesn't need wanna be know it all that really don't say anything and make themselves look like a fool.
ok I'm off my soap box now, feels good to rant after the week I've had. ;D
-
There are enough therapists and ex-therapists on here to help ;D
-
OOPS :farmer: :-* Therapists help aggh do I need one probable well maybe no yes o its all so complicated or is it I don't know I wonder its strange the way the mind works sometimes. :&> :bunny: :goat: O I better take a pill, is it the blue ones or the pink ones or maybe the white ones have I already taken one was it the right one choices choices, Think happy thoughts, Think happy thoughts, Think happy thoughts. Theres no place like home, Theres no place like home. Therapist I definitely don't need one do I ?
-
Smallholding is a therapy for dealing with modern existence. It brings me peace whereas my 1800 acre farming neighbour is stressed.

-
But you still haven't explained your statement :(
-
...and you have offended a lot of people in a way I've not seen happen before on this forum.
-
theres a troll fol de rol ::)
-
We have 2 ewe lambs and 2 whethers, they got put in with my horses whilst Mr Tup was in with his ladies, he has now gone back to his tup pals and they are back with the flock......thank god......they are hand reared so can you imagine the hassle trying to get horse feeds ready etc!! They are now stood at the fence of the sheep field, BAAAAAAAING, everytime they see 'Mummy'! That'll be me then!
-
Just stop all this nastiness please. I for one didn't join this forum for nastiness, so please please stop it now.
-
I am sorry bigchicken, you are quite right, there is no place for nastiness on here. f3rr3tt caught me at a bad moment with their remark, I had just lost my oldest ewe and was feeling pretty bad about it. It would be a great pity if people became afraid to ask questions.
-
Sorry to hear about your ewe. Would you ever know I was around in the sixties. (Peace and love man!)
-
Well f3rr3t....I agree with you, on a personal level.....i cant believe how little I know about sheep either!!..
..... but what amazes me is how much everyone else here knows and how generous they are with their knowledge and experience.
As with many other skills if the very first person hadnt tried...even though they knew absolutely nothing....then non of us would be keeping sheep. Sometimes its the collective shared experience of new good, and bad, ideas that pushes knowledge forward. So, again, even the most experienced of people on this forum will ask questions, and will maybe learn something from a complete novice!!
Lets sweep the missunderstanding under the carpet and start affresh!!
so instead of an olive branch i am waving a piece of brocolli :brocolli: :brocolli: LOL
