Gosh this one must have made her eyes water!
Measures 9 cm's long that's just over 3 and a half inches in old money.

This is one our hens laid back in October. About the same size and weighing more than 4oz.
The shape was distorted but when cracked it was a perfectly delicious double-yolker.

Must have made her eyes water though.

Gosh, our girls do try hard don't they! Whenever I see a really big one my heart goes out to them. Gold stars all round for effort.

Can't say 'Penny hen' has ever laid any big big eggs but at over 8 years old she started laying again, after her winter break, and has laid an egg a day for the past 5 day - today was a day off - but I think she's pretty impressive - would love to know what breed she is if anyone could tell me - thank you

I too have had the odd large egg and felt very sorry for the poor hen that had to lay them, at 8 your hen is doing very well indeed  :chook:

Wow, 8 years - that says it all!  I can't quite see her tailfeathers but she looks a lot like mine (Isas or Lohmann Brown?) :chook: :&>

Yes it was a double yoker,..... I made some delicious batter mix for toad in the hole.  Eight years is very good service in chicken years, will you give her a gold watch, or perhaps a gold hat to match her coat ?

Thank you for the breed names - will do some investigation - when we got her 4/5 week old we got 2 'poppy' turned out to be a cockerel, we lost him October time, died in his sleep, but she's still going strong!!
