i was adopted by a stray border collie today while at work. the police couldnt take him and the dog wardens dont work weekends. i have reported him as lost property which meens after 7 days he is mine. problem is i already have a border collie so don't want another. if i still have him in a week i will rehome him, any interested parties should contact me with a few details., it's a male, traditional black and white, beautiful dog actually. he's been neutered and is really really friendly. as far as i can tell so far he is housetrained and will sit and lie down on command. its a shame people don't take better care of their pets really. he is really underweight but very healthy looking apart from that. and i think he's about 2 or 3 years old.

I would contact Dogslost http://www.doglost.co.uk/ as his owner is maybe distraught at losing him. Any dog can run off after a rabbit, hare or deer and become disoriented. Please don't be so ready to criticise an owner when he is a friendly happy nice looking dog. He obviously has been well reared and socialised. Did the police check to see if he is chipped? No, I'll bet not. Have a word with your own vet - he can check whether there is a chip there and he can be reunited with his owner perhaps.

done all that. also listed him as found on the doglost site. there has been no report. he also has no chip. thanks for you're advice though, i know you always have plenty to give.

I am "dobber's" friend and also a member of the doglost forum. I have now spoken to him and he's had the dog scanned, and I have registered the dog's details on the "Found" section of doglost. Poor thing, from his condition he's obviously been loose for a while. Well done to dobber for taking him in and keeping him safe & cosy tonight, and giving him a good feed.

I hope he gets a good home - sounds like he deserves it (dog not dobber, although he deverves a good home too ;D)
If we didn't have 4 dogs already, I woudl be interested. Good luck with the home search.

I have nothing but admiration fro anyone who looks after a lost dog - I would be most appreciative if any of mine got mislaid. I just feel that soemtimes dogs get themselves lost and it's not always the owners fault. My apologies if I give too much advice, I will try to restrain myself. ;)

did he get a home?

Hi Dobber/Smiler, any news on the collie?

Yes, unfortunately no-one claimed him and as Dobber couldn't keep him, he went off to a local Rescue Centre for re-homing. The rescue people are going to keep him for a little while to fatten him up a bit before re-homing, but there has been a lot of interest in him already. Hopefully he'll soon have a loving new owner, a nice warm fire to curl up in front of, and won't ever be hungry again. Thanks for asking, and you too Princesspiggy, sorry I didn't see your post until today.
