Post by: Gazjackson on January 10, 2011, 07:58:49 am
Well guys wat do u think
I saw gordan Ramsay do it a couple of years ago
but can't remember the results.
Any one heard of this?
Does it flavour the meat?
I brew my own so have endless supply of the stuff.

NOt sure if it was Gordon Ramsey but one celebrity chef did do an experiment feeding beer to his pigs a few years ago.  The consenscus was taste was good, but the meat was tougher.  I have no idea why this should be.

Up to the 1980s at least two breweries (Adnams & Shepherd Neame I think) kept pigs on site as an economic way of disposing of the waste materials. As a supplement to normal balanced feeds, there's no reason why it can't be used assuming all legalities are considered.

is this liquid beer    or brewers mash (the spent barley/wheat or maize) which is fed to cattle anyway the hops they do not like
i have heard of feeding molasses to lambs to sweeten the flavour

3 adults, 5 weaners (two awaiting collection!) kune kunes.  the weaners are raiised for meat, the others are the breeders.

the bags are ooh... about 20 kg I reckon.
it varies how many are available.. but I can have a word & probably get it quite regularly...

If you want healthy pigs, you need a balanced ration. You're going to have to check protein content etc. and add as necessary.

Hi Guys, not been on here much but know of the site, as I spend alot of may time on the Pigsite.
Beer can be feed to pigs, as can the by-products, but as someone has stated, the diet needs to be balanced, which means beer or the by-products can not be feed alone.
If you are able to get a contract or where you can feed beer by-products then do it as it is a good cheap option, only you can not feed it alone!!!!!
Give me the option, and I will take it, as it is good, and nothing is illegal about it!!!!And because the are happy they grow far bettter, so go for it!!! ;D
