John Craven investigates why 2011 is going to be a challenging year for the poultry industry, and what the spiraling costs of producing eggs and chicken could mean for shoppers.the cost off feed in the uk will make it imposable to have chickins and eggs .iv just looked at the cost off gm feed its half the cost off whot we pay .so chickins and eggs will be imported in the uk at less than we can sell with no regulation as we cannot feed gm feeds in the uk .last week we had sub standard eggs from eu country selling to top supper markets .it was a big topic this week .with 4 months winter and the cost off feed as well as upgrading to new wired pens with perches uk farmers to meet eu regulations .it costs 20p half dozen more naw .ass well as the colder winters forcasts for the next 25 yeres .radio 4 news monday 6.15 Food manufacturers say they will continue to import European eggs despite the dioxin scare

as usual with Britain when the EU impose new regulations we are the first to comply yet import in this case eggs that are still produced in old style cages the same with veal and pork
in this weeks Scottish farmer there is an article about farming in Canada written by an ex Scottish farmer he has embraced gm crops and is alarmed at the powers that be in Britain have not embraced this new technology and will fall by the wayside and if it comes down to cost then is this the demise of farming in Britain

Seems as it's still one rule for one & one for another.
About time those spineless gits in Whitehall told the EU to get stuffed or put a blanket ban on imported goods that we produce ourselves.

It's very worrying. The UK has complied with the removal of battery cages by 2012; a number of other European countries have not. Alyn Smith MEP has been trying to secure assurances that these illegal eggs will not be allowed on to the market place. The problem is "what do you do with them?" It's a lot of food to trash.
The whole GM thing is scary - the big companies who control GM are trying to scare us into believing that mankind can't survive without GM. I don't believe it. I don't want GM here. If you want it, go to Canada and embrace it.

i have no desire to go to canada only pointing out an article that is printed

money is always the last argument - costs apparently justify anything. It's not about feeding the world but about giving shareholders their dividend and bosses their bonuses. :&>
