we had our first lamb last night ,he was a single [as scanned] and he is the first lamb for the ewe.He weighed in at a stonking 16lbs [about 7.25 kgs for those upto date], a bit slow to get going but is getting there today.
-
twice the size of a baby what breed
-
oh bless spring is on its way well done bet mum was glad to get him out :o
-
Best wishes to your newborn. How old is the ewe?
:sheep:
-
sorry ,i should have said, he is a Lincoln longwool and should have been between 8 to 12 lbs. My only single to scan so the others shouldnt be as big ,hopefully.the mum is a shearling having her first babe, I sympathized.
-
We've just had twins. Jill's doing fine and so is one of the boys but she hadn't let down her milk and it's still rather woolly down there. Perhaps an hour is too early to tell. Lots of noise though and they've bonded.
-
oh that is so sweet good luck with them :hshoe: :sheep:
-
well done, we trim a wheel arch out in front of the hind leg and the wool in front of the bag so that the teats are free but not so exposed as to get cold.
-
We just did a haircut but will make sure we do the others before rather than after. Whoever recently said that sometimes the milk is late was spot-on
-
Congratulations,love to see some pictures.
-
congratulations to all the mums its started:-) I will be waiting for mine for months! :sheep: :sheep: :sheep:

mine not due till end march so ages to wait! so wish it was now, i love lambs....

Hmmn. Jill is fine and one of the lambs is looking really perky and feeding but the other won't latch on and suck. We've given him some lamb starter and just tubed another 100ml of colostrum into him and he can stand up but looks crap. He gets another feed at about 0200 and 0500 and we'll see how he goes.
Fingers crossed.
-
Good luck - so unfair to ge this far and not further - good luck
-
You might just have to hold him/her to the teat for a while, especially if the ewe is a first timer. Keep them penned up for longer, and keep tubing the weaker one with milk taken from the ewe if at all possible, after the lamb had a suckle from the ewe (so he/she is not full when you are trying to put him on). Hope they are doing fine.

well done !!!

with our hampshire sheep the first to lamb had a single (scanned and known) no problem with her the second(scanned with twins) lambed with two live lambs the tup lamb was the biggest after getting colostrum he was brought into the house to be warmed up and fed from a bottle after he was returned to the ewe the smaller ewe lamb was also brought into the house for some individual attention when returned to her mother if she saw us or heard us bleating like mad fortunately she is now behaving like a sheep had we not intervened one or both would have died

I'ts on its way but the day job got busy and what with being up all night I didn't quite get round to it: its on the other computer which is upstairs in the office while I'm on the laptop downstairs by the fire for the first time today.
Big one was 2.2kg while his weaker brother was 2kg. I think he's turned the corner and after a day he's been seen suckling. Not sure we got enough colostrum down him - prob about 250ml in the first six hours. Big thing was getting them dry under the heat lamp cos they were born in heavy drizzle.
Its amazing sitting in the silence at four in the morning with a baby lamb
-
Born in garden in heavy drizzle and just standing. Then after a bit of drying out
-
Now that's a really cute lamb.
:sheep:

Thanks Jackie: welcome to the forum. Matty isn't due for another month so I don't know what the ram was (not) up to.
