Sad to hear of the death of Gerry Rafferty one of my musical heroes of the 70,s and 80,s. A brilliant singer/songwriter probably best remembered for Baker Street but wrote and produced many great songs with bands such as The Humblebums (with Billy Connolly) and Stealers Wheel (Stuck In The Middle With You). RIP Gerry.

Heard Billy Connolly speaking on him today - he obviously had a lot of respect for him. I believe they are taking him back home to Paisley for his funeral

Gerry and Billy used to do impromtu gigs in any bar they found themselves in around Glasgow in the early 70,s. I believe it was Gerry who encouraged Billy to take up comedy full time.

That's 'cos he heard him sing ;D
I've been humming "Baker Street" all day - one of my all time favourite songs.

Billy Connolly said in that interview this morning that he met Gerry in Glasgow at a gig and he told him he wrote songs. Billy said 'aw, naw, no another yin', but went to Gerry's house when invited - heard his songs and his singing at that point, and in Billy's words - 'Wow'

I was sad to see last night that he had died. Mentioned it to my OH, who said "Who's Gerry Rafferty?"!! I couldn't believe it, so told him he was the songwriter for Baker Street "Never heard of it!" was the answer I got!
I did then look it up on you tube and as soon as he heard the tune he did recognise it, but I couldn't believe it.
Such a shame.
