Title: Snake bites
Post by: Bywaters on July 11, 2024, 01:09:04 pm
Suddenly had a few instances of adder bites in our area of West Yorkshire
Anyone else and what do we think has caused it ?  fatal for most animals

Been here 30+ years and never heard of it before

Hi Bywaters,

Fascinating! And great news if the increase in snake bites was related to an increase in adders - at least for those of us who don't live there..... It might be worth contacting 'Adders up' (https://northpennines.org.uk/what_we_do/citizen-science/adders-up/), they might be able to confirm any increase in adders in the near-by region.

You say 'fatal for most animals' - why? It's painful (ask me, how I know....), but most animals should get away with it. At least those bigger than a tasty rabbit.
