We got a call from my brotherinlaw at the weekend - the people he was working for had some chickens which they were going to kill as they didnt like them anymore -they attract rats, and did we want to save them? We met him there the next day and collected them all 10 of them !!
Luckily our neighbour came with us and he kindly took 5 and we kept 5. They are lovely healthy birds, Warrens I think, and the move hasnt stopped them laying.
They are settling in well, just a few of the older hens have had a go at them but there's plenty of room for them to get out of their way, and the ducks havent bothered at all.

A neighbour of mine wanted shut of his young layers cause he wanted different colours!.He found homes for some but we said no as we have become a depository for his out of favour animals inc moggy cats in favour of pedigrees etc. I would not mind if he had a genuine reason but just as a 'change'.Got fed up with the "oh she will take them" attitude and put my foot down. Good for you though.

All but one have settled in well, she seems to be getting bullied. We are trying to keep our eye on her but it's difficult when it's dark when we go to work and dark when we get back !
