Now, normally I don't vaccinate, did many many years ago but then sheep numbers dropped to 5 ish (or thereabouts).I
Last year, knowing i was taking empties through winter (ewes and lambs), vet suggested Ovivac P (I think it was) due to being unable to get heptavac.
Boosters are due around June I think.
However, I'm still unsure what is happening regarding lambing next year, if it's a definite no, then they can all get boosted, but I was told last year, IF I lamb next year, I need a clostrididial (can't spell) one, i.e. Heptavac, Bravoxin etc.
Mum has said boost then jab later this year with other stuff if I do decide to lamb. I think that's a waste of money.
I have found 50ml bottles of Heptavac which for a flock of 22 is enough, 3 bottles would be ordered, so I have some for the prelambing dose (if lamb)
Ideas? I've used Bravoxin in the past but even that has stock issues which is why I'm tempted to get the Heptavac whilst I can.

What do you want to achieve by vaccination ?
In my experience, Heptovac protects the animal against the 7 diseases which include pasteurella
I have had one or two die from this in the early days before I vaccinated
If you wish to reduce "empties" then an anti abortion vaccine is what you want

I'm NOT lambing this year, hence empties!
I've not vaccinated in the past and had issues, so had to start vaccinating. Over the years the flocks gone from 9 - 15 - 72 (nothing like buying in a flock of shetlands!) 50, then the remaining shetlands lambed and suddenly my 10 acres is being bombarded by a flock of multicoloured scoundrels that think let's escape! Kept around 40 for a few years and then problems, so whittled down, 5 in 2020! We know what the land can take and though (at the moment) we have 1 cow & calf, i remain way understocked due to having forced duckponds where there was once lush green grass, the current one has been there since the rains in October.
I was expecting a bit of spill over from the ditches, not this.
I spoke to the vet about this, if it was worth it, especially with having to take scrappy lambs through, they said my choice, better to be safe than sorry.
