Around 8 months ago we made apple wine from out own trees. Today was tasting time and Iam quite surprised how nice it is. Nothing went to plan at the start of the process and I did expect the lot to be dumped if I am honest but it is drinkable. Nice and clear so will be doing it again.

Go on then, how did you make it?

Friend of ours makes cider and uses a small electric garden shredder to crush the apples. The cutters rotate at 40 rpm, so it doesn't make that much mess. You would have to be very careful when washing it down afterwards though.

We cut up the apples and put in a huge bucket with sugar and water, added lalvin EC 1118. Left it for a bit then put into demijohn until it was no longer fermenting. Put into bottles and stored in aa cool place for 8 months.
