My husband took this picture of the moon rising over the sea at mablethorpe. You need to enlarge the photo to get the best view as it was taken in the dark!

the altitude of the moon towards the horizon - refraction is the answer - according to OH. Don't ask me to translate...
I love the moon with rainbow colours around it. :&>

its to do with how the light beam is "bent" and split... like in a rainbow? or through a prism - Pink Floyd 's "dark side of the moon" image?!

northfifeduckling some times you see a circle round the moon (a near away ring a far away storm a far away ring a near away storm) i think this is what you are referring to with your rainbow colours where we are situated the full moon rises from fife we can also see mossmoran and the flare stack we had noticed the moon a reddish/yellow but not into taking pics at night
