Title: Packaging for meat query
Post by: Cobra on December 23, 2010, 12:37:05 am
Can you let me know of any suppliers of box's etc for meat packing or what you do for your customers?

The meat that's for us and our family I'm not to concerned about, but some will be sold. its going from abattoir to butcher, will the butcher expect me to supply box's etc? What sort of packing should i provide from the butchers. Cardboard box's with polythene hygienic lining?

Really not sure at all whats expected or needed, any info would be appreciated.

Talk to your butcher Cobra, and do it quick !  ;)
Usually they'll pack and wrap everything for you - depending on what you want.
Did you leave cutting instructions at the abbetior ? I always phone the butcher too and talk to him about that and mention the wrapping and labelling at the same time. This time round I got everything without bones vac packed and boned joints were freezer wrapped. You could buy polystrene insulated cool boxes for delivery, but if it's local then cardboard boxes or plastic bags will be fine - providing everything's wrapped.

lol! Here was me thinking they were away already - what am I like  ::)
Usually they'll wrap joints individually, chops into whatever size of pack you need etc and it should all be included in their charge (check about vac packing, sometimes it's extra)
