Title: Dual purpose broody
Post by: Russpig on January 25, 2023, 09:35:41 am
I keep a nice flock of light Sussex which are great dual purpose birds and nice broodies aswell.

Fancy trying a different breed to run alongside them, a different colour to split the white up a bit.

Needs to be dual purpose and need to be capable of hatching and rearing aswell.

What’s everyone’s favourites?

Barnevelders.

Yes, they seem like a good fit!

My other thought is Rhode Island Red, because crossed chicks would be firstly great layers and secondly sex-linked.

Leghorn cock over Sussex hen. Great characteristics over Speckled Sussex, We got good layers, crests, even some green egg layers.
