Has anyone seen any more info on how/when the 200 pounds rebate for homes that use heating oil will be paid?
It is supposed to be paid via my electricity supplier, but - no surprise - total silence from them. How do they even know I have an oil central heating system?
Anyone with any advice on how to proceed?

According to the Citizens Advice website it will be paid in February. Thank you for mentioning it… I thought the £66/£67 credits to my electricity bill was the total. How they know who doesn’t have gas…well they must have a database I guess.

All of this may be completely irrelevant but we had to apply for our oil cheque. It was means tested, so they checked our last tax return and sent us one for €100 which we must give to the delivery driver next time we buy oil and it must be before the expiry date (obviously). I presume they cross-checked with the census we completed a few years ago which asked what our main heating source was.
Our €100 electricity cheque was credited to our account automatically.
There is quite a bit of data held by the Government here- very much a case of 'big brother is watching you'. They know exactly how many heat with oil and how much they use, so the deliveries are going to a central database. Linking that to the house, they also know the floor size in square metres (basis of the 'council tax'). As a result they can publish the annual figure of an average 20 litres per square metre.

I thought the Government payment was for energy in general, not specifically for electricity or gas or other heating means?
So if you have electricity shouldn't you have been getting the £67 a month for six months from October? I have gas heating and I've been getting it.
I was under the impression you only get the oil heating payment if you haven't received the £67 per month energy grant (except it's not a grant, as they'll take it back over the next few years :eyelashes:).
It was only put to electricity suppliers because most people have electricity - which made it easier to distribute

No the 200 pounds for heating oil is additional to the 67 pounds you get off each month. And yes, it is not a grant....

Gas is subject to a price cap so gas users are effectively subsidised by keeping the price artificially low.

Gas is capped at about 10p /kWh.
Historically the wholesale price had been 1-2p / kWh.
Since mid 2021 it has averaged about 8p / kWh and fluctuated wildly up to about 20p / kWh.
Add distribution, admin, profit etc and, without the price cap, you would be paying quite a bit more than you are now.

My Unit rate at the end of December was 14p, standing charge is 25.56p per day
Last December it was 3.6p and 22.71 per day
So no, it isn't capped and no, I don't get anything towards gas usage
So the £67 per month is to cover all energy usage

Assuming you are a domestic customer in the UK your gas unit rate and standing charge are capped (according to what I found on the gov website and Ofgem)

Your gas price has gone up but it could have gone up more!
Your prices don't match those in the Ofgem link I guess because 1) prices vary across regions and 2) the cap is defined in kWh and gas meters usually read in other units (M3 or ft3).

with oil we have NO cap at all .... and we have to prepay when we buy .... so I grabbed half a tank in Oct at 95ppl 2 days later it was £110ppl ...... it is a lottery and one which requires £100's pounds in advance

It's the same here with price capping. Electricity and gas prices rise were capped at 15% this year and people have still received energy cheques for it (means tested). Oil went from €1.07 to €1.75 a litre last February when we bought and now stands at €1.45, so our €100 cheque is a small fraction of the extra cost. They have offered a cheque for people using wood, either logs or pellets, with wood having risen from €60 to €80 a stère (cubic metre if in metre lengths) but pellets have risen from €5 to a whopping €13 a 15Kg bag, so not much help there either. Still, something is better than nothing. We are losing just as much as a result of the £ crash.

This is the problem - they don't come out and fill our tank for less than 1500ltrs... so that makes it incredibly difficult for people who do not have that kind of money in the bank...

I looked this up this morning as hadn’t heard of this and seems coal, biomass, lpg and oil users get this £200. Some info on Scottish Government site. Our coal has gone up to £34 for 50kg so this payment would be very welcome.

Hi……I’ve done some googling on the Alternative Fuel Payment. The Scottish and UK government websites have some info. I have also found some info on the Scottish Power site and an article on the Daily Record’s page. Essentially if you don’t have gas and electric the £200 will be credited to your electric account this month. The only problem will be totally off grid households….I am not sure how they will be contacted. (I imagine local authorities will know who these people are…….surely reflected in their council tax band?)
I tried to use the SP chatbot but I couldn’t make it work…..but under the Help topic on the chatbot there was a piece on the AFP.

I have just checked with my electricity supplier (website) and they now also state that it should be credited to my electricity account by the end of the month. I will check then. :fc:

Guess what… Scottish Power have texted to say my £200 is on its way. Apparently it isn’t a credit to my electric bill but two hundred whole pounds in my bank account.

Thanks just checked with my electricity supplier and they have just credited 200 pounds to my electricity account... which doesn't really help me to buy oil, but hey ho...

But it saves you paying for electricity so you could put it on a credit card and put the money you saved monthly into that

Our account was credited with £200 just this last week. We're on LPG for heating and hot water (although we have wood burners fitted now too). Didn't need to apply at all, it was automatically credited

Just got my £200 this week, we have oil heating and also a log burner.
