Title: Huge swelling
Post by: suzi on January 14, 2023, 02:57:48 pm
I did an initial course of hepavac plus last week on all my sheep (5 ewes and 3 rams).
Rams are typical rams and have their funny 5 mins. All about the same age (Under 18 months) and nice lads generally.

Last night 1 of the 10 month olds was laying sat up looking fine in himself
This morning he was still sat there. Didn’t move for food
I called my vet. Between us we missed a HUGE swelling on his side.
When he was removed to get him into isolation I noticed it and showed the vet.
She thinks it’s either the rams having a fight (possible, then usually get iffy not nasty if that makes sense). Or it’s a hernia.
I vaccinated him last week exactly above wheee the swelling is. It’s his 1st time being vaccinated.
Vet doesn’t think it’s anything to do with it as reactions happen within a few days. I know that rule doesn’t always follow as my daughter can react 2 weeks after having contact with something.

The vet thinks he’s either blind or partially sighted now (he wasn’t). He’s always been an odd lamb. Bottle fed and confused between being a ram, a human and a dog bless him.

He’s been given metacam and b1 (vet thought he might be deficient before we saw the swelling).

Anyone else got any ideas I can look into please?

This is a very loved little sheep.

Now don’t be clever saying photos help 😂😂
I’ll see what I can do when I see him later on today.
My farm hand has done then this morning for me
