Title: Mouflon
Post by: [email protected] on December 25, 2022, 07:50:53 pm
Hello folks, we are looking to acquire a couple of mouflon. Can anyone point us in the direction of a UK flock / breeds. They seem hard to find. Thanks

Mouflon are not so much a domesticated sheep breed.  A few years ago, someone posted about them on here, but no-one else kept them.  Perhaps you'll be lucky this time around.

Well [member=225285][email protected][/member], sometime back there was a post from [member=142141]James1[/member] re his flock. Unfortunately I irritated James1 with my "questioning" ont' forum and he did not further respond.  However, perhaps you might PM him to see how things are ?

( There was someone else who acquired/set-up a Moulfon herd in UK much earlier than James1, but his earlier UK herd declined in health/fecundity  - as I recall it - due to a limited gene pool in the UK. It seemed to me at the time of James1's last enquiry about other UK flocks that other TAS members were rather interested in knowing more about the Mouflon.  Whether anyone (whether James1 or others) followed up that interest by, perhaps, importing some "new" Moulfon (i.e. different lineage) was never subsequently revealed ont' forum to my knowledge. )

Best of luck.

Googling tells me they have some in the New Forest.  linky (https://newforestwildlifepark.co.uk/animals/mammals/mouflon/).

I have European Mouflon that came originally from France, then to an estate in Norfolk then to me in Scotland.
