they have also started throwing out their straw....not just a bit cos they're too hot...... but all of it!!!!

One of my berkshires is notorious for doing exactly the same thing as soon as the weather gets too wet for her or the ground is frozen. Likewise, she uses the otherside of the ark for toileting ::) ::) However, since sharing with another sow she's not been quite as bad ;D Its a bore i know, but she'll almost certainly be back to normal when the weather settles. Stooped over mucking out pig arks is no joke >:(

blinkers, i saw your website, how do organise to get your fleeces back from abattoir to tannery. i wanted mine back but they wouldnt let me cos of bluetongue, and said id have needed premises inspection from animal health. i havent managed to find a tannery in scotland, but was told pre-bluetongue you could post them? advice wud be very helpful.

Ooo, sorry for the delay in replying ::)... as for skins, I just asked and they said yep, showed me where to wait "they'll fall through that shute", gave me some bags and boys-your-uncle; off home with skins ;) If you look on this website www.organicsheepskins.co.uk you'll see that Nicki really promotes the fact that you are 'allowed' to have your skins back no matter what anyones says ;D She did ours and we were very pleased with them. Got another 5 going off for the chop in January. Sorry, probably should have put this in the sheepy section ???

thanx, its bin a year since i tried, hence why theyre still in field! wonder if scottish laws are different. i read a magazine article where u posted em 2 a tanner, then bluetongue struck.

i asked st andrews if i could have my skins back but they also said no. wonder how we might go about changing their minds...anyone else use them and interested in getting skins back?
surely if enough of us ask, then they might say yes?

well apparently u cud, but not after bluetongue. but i havent tried 4 a year, so will fone em up again. i dont know who to send it to though? i dont want to bring em home cos that means inspections from animal health or someone.( wer in aberdeenshire). was driving right down in angus country a few months ago and saw a sign for tanner. when down track to see if he wud do my skins but it was just a posh leather and sheepskin shop. i think he thot i was a bit bonkers!! apparently used to be a tanner 10 years earlier but so many chemical and regulations made him stop. Shame, sheepskins rugs arent cheap and the cowhide rugs in argos are nearly £200. i wanted their horns back aswell. Theres loads of things u can make with them. button, keyrings, walking stick handles, horns. such a waste to give it away, and still pay them for the killing!
