Title: Good Goat Book
Post by: Festus on December 19, 2022, 04:07:37 pm
Hi.  Can anyone recommend a good book about goat husbandry that covers everything, like Tim Tyne's "The Sheep Book for Smallholders" which is an absolutely invaluable book.  Is there a goat equivalent? TIA

MacKenzie's Goat Husbandry", 5th edition, revised by Ruth Godwin. (1993) - not the earlier versions. Even in that one read cautiously the sections about Goat health, though still relevant by and large. I would not sweat over the detailed section on feed values, just go with the general gist of it.

I find the older books are good value for smallholder goats.

Avoid US books with the exception of the Belanger " Storey's guide to raising dairy goats"

Both the above should be available relatively cheaply on abebooks.co.uk

Hope this helps?

Many thanks.  I'll get on it right away.
