Udny would be good. You know where ?

Afraid not, been away from home for 15 years, I would ask at one of teh country garages, or perhaps a local farmer?
If they are still there, you could ask Esme and George (used to be Esslemont Estate Farm Manager) - they lived on their farm behind us at Overton. Along the road from the Overton Garage - they might be able to help
We were at Arcadia, at the crossroads

Many thanks

Well after a bit of investigation, if I want to buy less 500L (which I do due to if going off after 6 months), then need to drive to Smith and Sons in Peterhead with Jerry cans.
Anyone recommend any decent cheap diesel storage vessels around 30 L ?

A tank of diesel lasts me nearly 18 months and I've never had problems with it going off. If it is a risk you can buy biocide to add to it.
Whatever you store it in I would recommend it is bunded, just in case.

there is a map showing red diesel outlets - I found it on a FB group on CHinese Diesel Heaters
It escapes me at the moment, but if I find it again I will post the link

Please do, I am a facebook hater so do not use.
Interesting to read that the red diesel would last 18 months...guess the 6 month thing is a conservative estimate form supplier etc.
Can you recommend a biocide to add to th diesel ?

I can't recommend any particular biocide, I just googled 'diesel biocide' and picked one.
I once worked on a ship that had a diesel tank sized to last for a year without refuelling. They were very careful (isolating new deliveries of diesel and testing for bacteria before transferring it to the main fuel tank) but never had any problems (fortunately as 16 million litres of contaminated diesel would have been a big problem!)
On the other hand I have also once seen how one batch of bacteria contaminated diesel caused problems for months with blocked filters so it can happen.

Thanks, will do some research.
Probably should know more about the issue myself as have worked at sea for 20 years.

Well a quick update.
Bought 4 x 20L jerry cans and been using them to refill my compact tractor and hired plant
Starting to get a bit annoying because I am using 400 to 500 L per year.
Getting to the point where a diesel dispensing tank would be useful, especially if move from a 25hp to 40hp tractor
Can any fellow smallholders give me some advice on a good bunded tank to get ? Local firm said delivery is 500L or more, and bunded tanks only
So I guess I need something decent 500L to 1000L, bunded and can dispense the fuel.
Could be either stored in my shed or outside.
Many thanks !

Actual fuel bowesers and TransCubes etc can be quite expensive although they do appear on market place every now and again. Diesel bug forms when you get water in the fuel, typically this happens when there is empty air space in your tank and condensation forms. To avoid this, I favour smaller 205L (55gal) drums amd keep 2 or 3 of them on an interceptor tray to catch any leaks. Never had a problem with this. That being said here, so long as its for agricultural use they'll also discharge into IBCs
