Title: Possible bloat!?
Post by: Emily!!!125 on October 20, 2022, 08:38:57 pm
I’ve had a ewe bloated for a few days, treated it as though it was bloat- seemed to soften the bloat but didn’t make it go down.

She’s never been off colour in herself, she’s absolutely normal- poos etc.

Could it just be a full stomach!? And I hadn’t noticed before as she had all her wool??

Anybody had anything similar where it didn’t turn out to be bloat?

You have caught it early or it wasn't bloat, just a full rumen. Bloat is very distressing for the sheep, untreated it can kill quickly so if she has always acted normally I'd say she didn't have it.

If it is/was bloat she would be round and you would not be able to see the backbone/small bones (where you condition score normally). She would be like a ball. This looks normal to me for a ewe, that has lambed before/is older.

She’s only 6 months- but I am almost sure now it’s greed not bloat as you say she isn’t like a ball

she's out on grass (limited) , with access to hay and gets a course mix each morning. I have others her age and breed and they are nowhere near as round in the stomach area
