NOT flasks or drink pods, already got them.
Mum, 80 and decrepit, decided yesterday to argue with the carpet. (She has trouble picking up her feet, got bad knees, needs new hip, doesn't like walking with sticks or her frame, moans due to pain, walks "here's me boobs me arse is following") basically bloody minded!
Well, now she got her arm in sling and word "fracture" has been mentioned.
At dinner time, struggled to drink her cup of tea, tried not to choke due to laughter! (We have found crying doesn't get you anywhere!)
I have various thermos, flasks and drinks pods but they all require grip. Mum hasn't got much In her hands so they aren't any good. It's all very well buying a 2 handled version but it's knowing which one is good enough for weak gripped folk that doesn't spill if she drops if, if there is anything like that.
Was hoping one of you might know of something that may be suitable.

Are there sippy cups that can take a warm drink?
Edited to add, yes there are. Linky (https://www.mobilitysmart.co.uk/adult-drinking-cup.html)
(My Ancient Ps are in their 90s, I am getting good at finding solutions to problems which are new to me but have already been solved! lol )

Also a generic 2-handled cup holder, if she resists the "kiddy beaker" style. Linky (https://aids4mobility.co.uk/products/two-handed-cup-holder?_pos=12&_sid=0e8d3bcac&_ss=r&variant=42015979045058)

Something like this looks good but although it doesn't say, it's clearly plastic. Also it's an American link and sorry but I'm just dashing out so no time to see if it's available in the UK.
I just wanted to say though that tea out of a plastic cup is vile, so if you can find an antique 'caring cup' made of bone china (nice and light) I think your Mum would prefer that. Also, when I broke my neck years ago I had to lie flat and drink out of a baby's cup with a spout and lots of little holes - it was an experience I never want to repeat (both aspects!). I think I would rather give up tea than have to drink it out of a plastic cup. Best wishes to your Mum and I hope you find her something she likes.

Me again, after rereading your post. Sounds like the first thing to do is sort the carpets. Even sticking down the edges isn't good enough, you really do need fitted carpets. My aunt was one who loved her Persian rugs so it took a lot to persuade her they had to go - she had them in a crazy paving mishmash everywhere! The fitted carpets were really not expensive, laminate flooring is even cheaper. So have a think of how to sort the floors to make them easier to navigate and prevent accidents.
-
Careful if you go down the laminate route as they can be too slippy for older folk and dogs.

Yes, you have to choose one with a textured surface.

Am catching up!
Revealed to be a sprain, not a fracture but with being 80 and already decrepit etc, more falls hurt more especially when the current pain medication can barely keep current pains at bay. DONT START "learn to manage pain". I find the plonkers who suggest stupid things like that have never felt pain like that before in their lives. Car crash in the 1960's is where a lot of her pain starts from, before and after then manual working, lugging 40/50kg by herself as that is what was expected etc (no health and safety).
We do have fitted carpets, also have non slip flooring, she cant pick her feet up on either! I heard a bang the other day, I walked into the front room, she on bum, "I hit my head" she said. Bent forward, gravity took over, need I say more?

On another note, my limit is 25kg, though I prefer 20kg. Sugar Beet for example used to be 40kg paper bags and mum and I would lift them together, telling each other not to laugh, which we would. I also find now, that the last time paracetamol actually worked for me when I was much younger. In my early 20's, thinking "I could lift this" I grabbed a bag of sheep corn, to help mum and swizzled it over my shoulder......... Ever since, I get nerve pinches just between shoulder blade and neck. Nice big red pills killed the pain in the past, Nabumetone or something like that, doesnt touch me now! "Oh, I used to be on that" I got told off mum when 1st prescribed it! Oh to be old (currently 48), the last few days, pain in right side, hurts when I breathe or try to lift.... going slowly, it'll be gone in a few more days....I've got another 32 yrs of pain to look forward to, yippee.....

Wish I could meet your Mum - she's my kind of woman. At almost 79 I have the same attitude to life. Good on you, Mum xx
