Title: Free Wool
Post by: buxtonmarauder on September 21, 2022, 09:23:30 pm
I have half a tonne bag (it doesn't weigh that much) full of sheeps wool going begging for anyone who wants to collect it.. North Staffs (Biddulph Moor) collection if anyone wants it ?

You are talking about fleeces (as they have come off the sheep) or ready-spun and washed wool (ready to knit/weave etc..)

If the former, then you best bet is to compost it, use it as mulch on your garden beds.... If it is ready spun wool then you may be are better giving it to a charity shop or similar for someone to knit into winter blankets.

Thanks for the reply.. can you spot the man who knows nothing about this topic ?!!

You're right, it's just the fleeces which I got from the lady who had 14 sheep on our land.

Seems like I've been left with a problem rather than anything that's a philanthropic benefit to others :-(

I don't have any garden beds to put it on so I'll just dispose of it somewhere unless someone else wants it for mulch.

Thanks

Jason

With the value of fleece so low, there is a growing awareness of the old way of stabilising muddy  paths/tracks, gateways etc with the fleeces.
Maybe useful for that? Or advertise locally as mulch/ stabilizer?
It did keep the slugs off my dahlias. :)

Interesting idea.. we have a few muddy gateways so that might be an idea..

does one have to do anything special when laying them down do you know ?
