Hello
Would anyone have any approx. day old chicks available in southern Aberdeenshire or north Angus this weekend?
I’ve a broody on half a dozen eggs due to hatch on Friday, but would like a few extra chicks if possible that aren’t related to the rest of the flock.
(And aren’t cockerels either please, we got 10 out of 15 cockerels in last years hatch and similar in 2020)
Thank you.

And so two days before they are due to hatch she’s decided she’s not broody now.
Blooming hens.

Can you borrow an incubator for that last couple of days?

a cool oven and spray with water might just bring them out. That's how they did it before we had electric :innocent:

Maybe the embryos have died or the eggs weren't fertile in the first place. Candle them to find out and if still viable then shove in the incubator and set the humidity to 65%.

Sorry for not replying earlier, but just seen the posts.
No they were stone cold and possibly had been for about a day when I went to check so nothing doing unfortunately.
I’ve not got an incubator (as I would probably be divorced after hatching several hundred “let’s see what happens” eggs against the better advice of my wife”), could have done to see if they were OK.
I think she got bored, she’d been broody for about a month before I put her on, but holiday planning (in-laws looking after some chicks + hens + sheep + cats :0 ) meant I put it off for a while and she just got fed up.
Got another one sitting on 4 eggs now (down from 8 to 4 that she cracked after 3 days), so might get some this year after all.
