Any evidence that the Himalayan rock salt you put in fields can cause scouring? I usually have a tub with some in in most fields. Can over use, particularly in lambs, cause an issue?
I have a lamb who had bad scours. It seemed to be clearing up so put them back with main flock where there is a salt block and he’s scouring badly again today. I saw him on it once, when he first went back in to the field, but haven’t seen him constantly on it or anything.
The OH has a theory that the salt could disagree with him. It’s coming out in a hot jet of water and I don’t believe a salt lick would cause that, but the OH says maybe it is. Just wondered on anyone else’s opinion…?

Can’t say I’ve heard of it causing problems. Do a fec on the lamb and that may give some idea why it’s scouring.

I’d had a FEC done which showed low worms (good as I’d used wormer already) and lots of cocci. Obvs no way of telling whether it was bad cocci so vet said to dose with Tolracol to cover. Pooh went from water to just soft but then went backwards again. Ended up using meds for crypto which has sorted problem. Same lamb had same issue in April and it was the crypto meds that cleared him then. Always seems that if it isn’t worms or cocci there’s not much you can do. But the main thing is he’s now better.

And vet said it wouldn’t be the salt either!
