Title: Sheep ear tags
Post by: BlitheringIdiot on May 17, 2022, 04:33:28 pm
Hi all

I want to take my lambs to market to sell as stores. Do I need both blue and yellow ear tags, or will just one yellow slaughter tag be ok? Not knowing the rules, I have always done both to be on the safe side, but now that I’m running out of blue tags I wonder whether I really need to order more.

Many thanks in advance!

I have some 13 month old lambs/hoggs to go to the butcher in a couple of weeks they are tagged with 1 yellow EID tag, do need to add to another tag or will the one be ok?

Regards

If you look up the rules ,they say a single slaughter tag can be used in any animal slaughtered before 12 months of age but older than that and you must remove the single tag and replace with a pair , but i thought end of june was considered the cut off point unless they have lost their lamb teeth then they are considered an adult . So in both cases i would speak to the end point for advice BWH may get away with a slaughter tag, but depending on how finished they  are eg can be finished in the next month Blitheringidiot may need doubles if not ready or single tag if almost prime
