Title: Heptavac P Plus
Post by: epherdwicks on May 04, 2022, 03:33:35 pm
As there is a complete lack of Heptavac available round here does anyone know if there is an alternative medicine I could use on my five lambs please?

Sorry, can't help

Engimycin is the alternative but needs double the dose

Yes you will struggle to get it, it is out of stock everywhere. Last I heard was msd said it’ll be back mid May but I’d not take that as gospel. Speak to your vet, I think a lot of people are using ovivac.

Bravoxin 10?

Used to swear by Engemycin, thinner than terramycin and either jab 3 days in a row (for those who are local) or double the dose and jab every other day (for those not as easy to bribe!)

I liked Oxycomplex though, fab drug, fixed everything! (Couldn't get Nuflor one winter, OxyC! Idle bull calves....... Jab of OxyC!)

Apparently we can't get Pen&Strep here. There's your Brexshit Bonus. :coat:

Ovivac is an alternative, but doesn't cover against as many diseases.

Some vets this year are splitting bottles, or doing rounds injecting at lots of smallholdings from one big bottle.

No, but if it’s between that and no cover at all, then I’d go with ovivac. It’ll cover pasturella where Bravoxin 10 doesn’t. Guess it depends if you need the pasturella cover really. Even vets can’t get heptavac at the moment, it’s just on back order with no due date.

There have always been big bottles available whenever I've been in the feed store. It's just the smallest two sizes that seem to be in short supply in Scotland at least?

Problems with Lambivac here (which is used for goat kids instead of Heptavac), but it seems to be available in 100ml size online...

You can of course use Lambivac, and then if these are meant to live on beyond 1year or so, do a course of Heptavac. But only 100ml bottles of Lambivac available, and none in our local feed store for example. I am just trying and see if the vet can get me a bottle. You will need a vet prescription for any vaccine you buy online anyway.

Probably because it’s excess stock that was purchased before the shortage.
