Title: Turmeric and black pepper
Post by: patrickr on April 15, 2022, 08:21:40 am

Hi

I read somewhere (possibly on this forum) that turmeric and black pepper could be given to sheep to help with joint problems, inflammation etc.  Has anyone got any more info on this - any advice on amount to administer and how to administer.  I know it's given to horses too....

Thanks

There's a turmeric users forum on Facebook founded  by a vet who has done a load of research on turmeric and its benefits.
Yes it does help with inflammation. It is made more effective by the addition of black pepper, and should also be given with an oil because it is insoluble in water. But I believe with ruminants the addition of oil is unnecessary because of the presence of fatty acids in the rumen.

Look it up on Facebook - the benefits of turmeric go way beyond its use as an anti inflammatory.
