Post by: pikilily on November 28, 2010, 08:49:44 pm
...............How about we have a wee competition!
Lets make Accidental Smallholding snow men, photograph them and post them on the forum.
Dan and Rosemary could be judges...the winner gets to have a topic dedicated to them..... :-\

Snow pig, snow turkey, snow sheep, at least the thought has entertained!!
It has taken me an hour to dig horses out, dig my way into the shed to get the tools to chip my way into the quail in the polytunnel, and then chip the ice of the hen house - I havent even started the mucking out...hay waters etc have been done tho.

Would keep the child in me entertained.

I'd love to but my hands are too cold now :(

I hate these new round bales, they have strings instead of netting wrap and worse the strings are right through the bale so you can never just pull an armful away, it's handful by tiny frozen handful >:(  I have 4 fields to do, one 5 miles away and I had to defrost myself before going to that lot and now I'm home for a coffee and then have to start all over again ::)

Oh and a large conifer has started to shear with the weight, I have several twisted branches hanging down within 4' of the house so am very relieved the whole thing didn't come but a little worried in case more goes cos I can't work out if it's just the snow/ice weight or a whole tree problem partly unfinished :o

And all the taps, even the ones left running, are frozen so guess what after the next hay round ::)  Just as well I don't have a day job now ::)

We started to go and build a snowpig but ended up having a polybag sledging session, then the dogs got too excited and ended up scrapping. Sunny's lower jaw got stuck, by his cannines, under Oddy's collar and the scrap ended up being a fight that niether of them could get out of!!!!!!!!
....we tried everything to get them seperated, my daughter was getting increasingly panicked, thinking they were going to kill eachother. Unfortunatly the buckle for the collar was inside Sunny's mouth and i couldnt unbuckle it.... Luckily i had a knife in my pocket so was able to shear thru the collar...
It really wasnt pleasant,
so, snow pig - tomorrow!!

Poor you, I know all about impromptu dog fights - they can happen even with the most placid of dogs if they get scared. Hope you and they are OK now.

I can't get my boys together any more - young lad has decided he is top dog, 5 year old won't back down(don't expect him to either) so just have to keep them apart - not a problem as I have warm cosy kennels and runs, so Bobby and his Mum outside, Allez and his Auntie inside with the old girl, then swap them in a couple of days - so none of them are neglected.

OH and I were discussing last night that we would make a HUGE snowman today, try and be jolly about the horrendous conditions, but, I think both of us 'forgot', its been hideous here again.  OH did manage to get the new hitch on his JD and I have made our Christmas cake, well, actually better go check it, its nearly time up.

If we do find time and energy to build a snowman, I'll take a pic!
