Title: Coffee and Tea rooms
Post by: sandy on November 06, 2008, 09:16:08 pm
Hi, everyone, I keep wanting to open our lounge /dinning room at weekends as a tea room, not sure what sort of planning I need, I will ring the council but as we are currently a B&B and have been checked out, I am not sure that only serving Tea and cakes as it were will be seen as needing further planning. I can have a fire going and am easily acsessable and can be a god place to meet up and if anyone had stuff to sell, e.g produce, crafts, freecycle (small things) I would be happy to facilitate that as well....whatch this space!!!! Sandy

Spoke to the council, all in order at the moment, I would LOVE to sell local produce as well, Ithought people could put a price on stuff, drop it off and I get a comission, agreed before hand, I thought of stuff like jams and preserves and anything else that people want to sell, cards, paintings, homecrafts...wooled socks

not sure if you'll like this idea but you could have a 'book crossing corner'?
Might not earn you money straight up but might get you free publicity.
http://bookcrossing.com/crossingzones here is a website about it.

Love the idea of the book crossing, thanks, I have a lot to sort out at the moment, keep comming up with ideas, my daughter added if people bring stuff from freecycle I will end up with a yard full of old washing machines and TV's, not such a good idea...Thanks again, Sandy

I have found I could create a tea room but it will cost a considerable amount re: toilet facilities, funnily enough, I campaigned for disabled acsess years ago and did not think too deeply into it as we have wide halls and a downstairs toilet but it has to be the special type and rails so people can at least use it unaided...If I could get some grant I still would think about putting money towards it as I realy think it would be a good community provision....I'll give it a bit more thought, Sandy

On the freecycle idea you could hold a special day event and limited it to simiple items only eg magazine, no electronic item which can easily been recycle or taken to a charity shop. So that is no problem.
