Bernard Matthews has died at the age of 80 . He died yesterday afternoon . Whether you agreed with the way he reared his turkeys or not , he did provide a lot of affordable food for many people :o ::).
cheers

I didn't agree with the way he reared his turkeys, nor what he fed them on and in particular I could never agree with the way he treated his work force. I grew up just a few miles from his centre of operations and knew many people, particularly women, who worked for him.

no I never agreed with the way he reared his stock from what I had read ... but didn't know much more about the way things were done there really . I just thought I would pass on the information he had gone .
cheers

I have a feeling that a lot of his birds were shipped out to ex Eastern Block countries where they were raised in conditions which could not be tolerated here, then shipped back for dispatch and sale in UK. (Its the same here in France they send the eggs to Brazil, then bring back the birds for killing and selling).

Yes that was one of his little practices. Very scary during the bird flu worries.
He had more Health and Safety breaches than anyone else in Britain.
