Hi, one of my goats has a zinc deficiency. The vet checked him over to be sure. I'm giving him Caprivite (not the vet!) and a Rockies Yellow mineral lick.
Can anyone suggest anything else which will get zinc into him?
Thanks Katie

Seeds like pumpkin are rich in Zinc, maybe sunflower too? Possibly hemp? I would look through spme horsey sites, there you can get all sorts of specific food stuff for individual deficiencies. Most horsey feed stuffs are good for goats too, but maybe check with the vet beforehand.

Great thanks, I'll have a look

my vet said buy human zinc tablets (cheaper) ..... gave me a dose rate

I've ordered some horse stuff but I was wondering about human tablets. I think we might share the same vet as I'm not far from you - teilo vets

yes ..... always ask for Sarah when needing info on Goats she is great
So where are you?

I'm 10mins outside Llandovery, off the Builth road.
Do you have the dose rate from Sarah please? I spoke to Rees but I think he was taking advice from Sarah!

Sorry it was a quite a while ago so no I dont remember . Sarah is based in Llandeilo (my nearest surgery)....

As a matter of interest, what are the symptoms of zinc deficiency? I've not come across that in livestock.

Scurvy, scabby skin mostly.

IIRC????
But probably yes that too. Scabby skin is the first thing most people notice.

If I recall correctly.
Don't worry. It's not some new disease.
