Title: Why does this outbuilding have a concrete floor?

Hi all I have just bought a small holding and i have a upstairs outbuilding room which i would like to make into a room, it has concreate floor which is all cracked and not level, its the only outbuilding to have it.


why was it done like this? can it be lifted up and replaced with wooden boards?


the room below has a few beams going across and has plasterboard between them. can see anything from below. there is a small hole in one area which has the concreate about 30cm thick and newspaper pushed through it

It's is very likely to be cracked as concrete isn't flexible and timber is.

Replacing with floorboards is a good idea. You could run some 4 x 2 at right angles to the existing beams and infill with insulation under the new floorboards if you were so minded

A house that I know of has a concrete floor upstairs.  It was originally a grain store and raised in case the river alongside ever flooded.  In the houses case it is a listed feature and cannot be removed.
