My two chickens have come through their moult and one has started laying again, still waiting on the other to get going. They are over 18 months old and had previously laid really clean eggs. However the eggs recently are spotted with blood. Doesn't bother me as I just eat them but I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or not doing something I should be. Nothing has changed other than their moult and their age.
Is there anything that can be done to stop or reduce the blood spots?
Cheers
and Merry Christmas

There is absolutely nothing you can do about blood spots Mondo. Sometimes, when the yolk detaches from the ovary, a small amount of blood is released as well. You may well find that things return to normal. We had a Marans producing eggs with blood spots and after a few they stopped.
Commercially eggs for sale are screened for blood spots and the ones found are removed and presumably used elsewhere.

Thanks. I’ll just crack on as we are then. I’m fine with the eggs so as long as my chickens are ok.

And that is purely because toonsers are afraid of egg contamination :innocent:
Absolutely nothing wrong with eating eggs with blood spots in them
