On the white (top) copy of the Capita 4 colour forms for moving sheep it states that the white copy must be returned within 3 days of a move. What happens if the form is not returned at this time?
Our butcher took 5 of our lambs off on 1st Nov, took all the forms and said he'd let me have the relevant ones back. I've only got them back today (he's been ill) and they are in fact the blue and yellow copies. Can I send one of these off instead of the white and does it matter that it is so late?

Recipient sends off the white copy.

The butcher has sent off the white copy then.

Well I assume so, but don't know for certain, he wasn't available to talk to. I spoke to his son who doesn't deal with the paperwork (apart from bills!) so couldn't help me. He fished out a load of forms from a pile in his father's car and presented several to me (which weren't mine) before eventually finding mine.
I thought I kept the white copy and sent it off, the abattoir keeps the pink, the haulier (in this case our butcher) keeps the blue and the yellow is my file copy. Or have I got this wrong?

When I sell at market I only get the blue and yellow copy back. Market sorts sending the white copy off. If you didn’t transport the lambs to abattoir you shouldn’t have the blue copy but I wouldn’t worry too much. The abattoir will have sent the white copy off.

OK thanks, I'll just keep both these copies then.

Whatever happened to the white sheet, it's not your problem, once it's filled in, signed, and leaves your possession with the animals, it's 'new keeper's' responsibility.
But if he transported them, he should keep the blue one for his paper trail.
Hope he's OK, sounds like his son is struggling a bit.

I think I was getting confused with buying in sheep, where the white copy is my responsibility to send off. I now realise that if sheep are leaving my holding then (as Sally says) the recipient ie abattoir in this case would send off the white copy. It just took me a little while to get my head round it - it's the first time I've sent lambs off. Been doing pigs for quite a few years but recording pig movements is all done on line.
The butcher is apparently better now (thanks for enquiring), and was working yesterday, just not at the shop when I called in to pick up our bacon and pay the bill. It's a big family business and they always seem incredibly busy - so I can understand why some of the paperwork doesnt always take priority .....

Yup, exactly. When you bring sheep *on*, you are the recipient so you complete the form with the arrival details and send off the top copy. When the lambs go off for slaughter, the final recipient of the *live* animals is the abattoir, so it is they who complete the form and send off the top copy.
