Title: Feeding when moulting
Post by: Penninehillbilly on November 10, 2021, 09:19:48 pm
Hi, our hens (hatched Sept 2020) have stopped laying and are now moulting, should I carry on with layers pellets or something else? They also have  handful of wheat morning and night between 3 of them.
TIA

We switch ours to rearers pellets until the first one lays again. Avoid the wheat as it's too low in protein, which they need to grow their new feathers. As a treat we give mixed grain with added sunflower hearts (1:4), which keeps the protein level up to 17% 'ish.
