Title: Roe Deer
Post by: sabrina on November 16, 2010, 04:44:22 pm
We have quite a few around us which do get shot from time to time. I think they know that they are safe on our land as they gather over the winter. Anyway the other morning I was out just before daylight and saw a hind with twin fawns. Never seen this before and wondered if that was rare event.  :)

Not meaning to sound rude but the correct terminology is a Doe for a female and a Buck for a male.  ::)  ::)
Stag and Hind are red deer with calves for young
Fallow are are Buck and Doe
Muntjac Buck and doe

Three fawns/kids are not unheard of but the average is 2. If the females habitat and food supply is good then they can have more hence the three you have seen, and in areas  of poorer quality they have less.

There are several up the forestry around where my hill ponies are kept - often see them on my way up particularly early morning and evening.  There were twins last year, not seen this year's as I am going later in the day now.
