Title: Vertical crack on hoof
Post by: moprabbit on July 30, 2021, 10:05:32 pm
Just wondered if anyone had any advice about treating a vertical crack on a sheep's hoof? My sheep have had horizontal cracks before which have gradually grown out and not caused any problems but I'm not sure what to do with this vertical one. She's not lame yet but looks uncomfortable on it. It's about 2cm long starting almost from the coronary band downwards. Thank you

If you think she is at risk of matter getting in through the crack and then causing irritation and/or infection, the traditional remedy is to clean it thoroughly and then paste it with Stockholm tar.

Thank you both for your replies. I've got some Stockholm tar and I think il get some cornucrescine, sounds very useful. I'll keep it clean and try one of these. Thank you.
