Hi all
We had a shocker a couple of nights ago when we found one of our young ewes had become trapped in the stock fencing by her horns earlier in the day. We found her lying on her back and barely conscious. Somehow we got her out, dragged her up our steep gully on a tarpaulin and kept her going throughout the night. 2 days later she has made a remarkable recovery has had steroids and metacam and is now able to stand and move about. She is still very wobbly though and she looks almost as if she’s had a stroke on one side. Have others had similiar experiences and Is recovery likely to continue or will she always be a bit imperfect now. She is one of our bottle babies from 2020 and an absolute favourite

Only time will tell , most recover fully BUT the odd one can show long term lopsidedness or damage to the eye which has been under pressure

Sounds as if she twisted her neck when she landed on her back. She will have been fighting and twisting when she first found herself caught and may well have put some strain on her neck muscles and nerves. Given time the nerves should recover - they're not like spinal nerves which don't regenerate. Watch the other sheep don't take to butting her if she's behaving differently. Good luck :fc:

Thanks both. A week later and she has made a fantastic recovery. Today she looks almost back to normal. We’re fairly sure she did something to the nerves in her neck. She’s spent the week separated from the main flock as surrogate big sister to this years bottle babies. A big scare but fingers crossed she’s gonna be ok
